How we grade

Seven rungs, and the rule that they belong to claims

A compound does not have an evidence level. Each claim about it does — and each one names the rung it sits on, the record behind it, and the reviewer who assigned it.

The strongest rung, not an average

A claim sits on the highest rung for which at least one record qualifies. Three animal studies do not add up to a human trial, so we never average and never score. The weaker records stay listed underneath, in rung order, so you can see the whole basis.
